This procedure is used to treat chronic neck and back pain, and can be performed anywhere along the spine.
It consists in delivering anti-inflammatory medication directly into the epidural space (outermost part of the spinal canal) and therefore closer to the source of pain. However, the medication is not guaranteed to flow to the front epidural space, the area where the irritated nerve can be found. The medication reduces the inflammation around the irritated nerve that is causing pain and discomfort.
Translaminar Epidural Steroid Injections are safe, rapid and effective procedures and may be an effective non-surgical treatment option. Although repeat injections may be necessary in some patients, excellent short-term clinical results can be achieved.
